“My primary research focuses on determining the effects of high-intensity functional exercise training on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer. We use human volunteers in clinical studies to test the effects of exercise training on fitness, activity levels, and health outcomes. Measurements include body composition (obesity), blood glucose levels (diabetes), and cholesterol (cardiovascular disease). By applying the same techniques to humans as those developed for basic research on animals, we will determine if the same health outcomes occur. My secondary research focuses on determining the influence of policies and the built environment on the development of chronic diseases.”
