My lab uses zebrafish as a model for brain development and neurogenesis. We investigate how molecular factors influence growth processes of neural stem cells in the developing brain. We are especially interested in the regulation of determination, migration, and differentiation of neurons and glial cells. Discovering connections with genes that control cell growth, differentiation, and death during normal development will also give insight into the causes and potential treatment of CNS tumors. Many studies in the field already have make links between normal development and tumorigenesis in all of the three common CNS tumors, i.e., retinoblastoma, glioblastoma, and medulloblastoma.
