Our team tries to understand the mechanisms underlying aging and neurodegenerative diseases, with specific emphasis on Parkinson’s disease (PD). Most of PD linked genes are also associated with cancers. The relationship between cancer and PD might be related to the involvement of common pathways in both diseases. Our group aims to understand the molecular mechanisms of PD using various model systems including yeast, Drosophila, mice, and primary and human neuronal cultures. Our goal is to identify molecular therapeutic targets for PD, which would lead to developing effective prognostic markers and improved treatments for both PD and cancer.
