Below is the information on our current RFA. All of this can be changed.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center will offer seed funding for research projects that aim to generate data for future grant proposals. All full faculty affiliated with the center are eligible to apply. Awards will be made on a competitive basis, with funding amounts capped at $25,000 per project due to budget limitations. Budgets that exceed this will not be reviewed. While larger funding requests may be considered, applicants seeking such support must consult with Dr. Ryan J. Rafferty prior to submission.

  • All members are eligble for IRAs. However, highest consideration will be given to applications from PIs that have not had IRA funding within the past 16 months.
  • Please note that proposals requesting sustained funding for full-time research assistants or postdoctoral fellows will not be considered.
  • Including salaries for undergraduate researchers within your proposal for funding is allowed, but said undergraduate researchers must be clearly identified in your proposal and listed in your budget. This section can not exceed 25% of your total budget.
  • Funding cannot be used for major equipment purchases, faculty salaries, or travel. If awarded an IRA, you can submit a request for part of the funds to be used for graduate student salaries. This is a separate process from this application.
  • A progress report is required for award recipients to remain eligible for future funding opportunities. If you have had an IRA end in the past 12 months and have not submitted a progress report, your application will not be reviewed. Contact the center if you have questions.
  • Funds will be given to be used within a two-year period. No extensions will be granted.

Requests will be evaluated based on 1) Cancer relevance 2) Potential for future national funding (such as NIH, NSF or DOD), and 3) preference will be given to programs not currently enjoying extramural funding. The cancer relevance of the proposed research will be a high criterion of evaluation.

Document requirements: 12 pt ariel font, 1 inch margins. Applications that do not meet requirements or provide the necessary documentation will be administratively triaged.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION - It is strongly encouraged for you to read over the application and collection all relavant information and assemble all documents before starting to fill out the application. There is no "save in progress" option on this form.

Applications will be reviewed and funding decisions made by a committee selected from K-State JCRC Members. One to two extranal reviews will be sought after and used in funding decisions.
