Radiation therapy is one of the modalities of cancer treatment for curative and palliative care in human and veterinary patients. The goal is to maximize tumor control and prevent damage to critical structures. Systemic approaches to advanced radiotherapy technology will provide opportunities for safer and more effective cancer treatment and will create opportunities to treat advanced and disseminated cancers with long-term control. Information derived from study of spontaneous tumors in companion animals not only benefits veterinary patients, but human patients as well, and new therapies showing benefits in companion animals can be smoothly, effectively, and often rapidly translated into human medicine.
